Bear ViewingAlder Bay Adventures, in partnership with local Indigenous operator Sea Wolf Adventures, offers full day, small group, bear viewing excursions departing daily from Alder Bay at 8:00am between May 15th and September 30th. Sea Wolf Adventures’ grizzly bear tours give you the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with British Columbia’s iconic bears in an intimate and immersive wildlife watching experience. Venturing into traditional territories, Sea Wolf's Aboriginal-owned tourism adventures ensure sustainable wildlife viewing that also supports the region's First Nations communities.
Granted unrivalled access to villages where the Sea Wolf staff are honoured members of the community, we share the cultural significance and stories behind the scenery as we travel towards our bear viewing areas, enjoying Vancouver Island’s whale watching opportunities as we navigate waters favoured by migrating orcas.
Journeying into the Great Bear Rainforest with Indigenous guides, we spend our time searching for grizzly bears. As every season and day is different, we will adjust our route to give you the best and optimal grizzly viewing experience, travelling to places such as Knight Inlet, Bond Sound, Thompson Sound, or Hoeya Sound. Pacific white-sided dolphins dance alongside the bow of our boat, Mayumi, as we start our adventure with a two-hour journey from Alder Bay, into the beautiful territory of the collective tribes that make up the Kwakwaka‘wakw. Eagles soar overhead and animals roam the shell-strewn beaches where ancient villages were once occupied by our people. Listen to your guide’s Indigenous interpretation of local landscapes as you learn more about the birthplace of our ancestors, from ancient traditions to contemporary culture.
Following grizzly bear viewing and catered lunch, this truly unforgettable wildlife experience ends in the Broughton Archipelago and Blackfish Sound. Here we often encounter the gentle giants of the Pacific: migrating humpback whales. Please note that our bear viewing areas are subject to change without warning due to weather or animal activity, but we will be finding the best places to see these majestic creatures from a safe and respectful distance.
Includes: Specialized gear such as rubber boots and rain gear, bag lunch, coffee/tea and visitor access fee. These are small group experiences with maximum group size limited to 10 guests and 2 guides.
